JOB FUNCTION AND SCOPE - FULLTIME POSITION - MICHIGAN CITY, IN 

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the entire HR team and HR Director to ensure customer service is met. Work with the Plant GM and local management team to ensure policies and procedures are followed, and to provide guidance and coaching as necessary.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Talent Management (30%)
    1. Manages company internal and external recruiting efforts.  Conducts phone screens, schedules interviews, creates offer letters and works with hiring manager to ensure hiring is done efficiently.
    2. Conducts new hire orientation for new and temporary employees.
    3. Works with third party vendor for temporary employees.
    4. Responsible for the requisition system online through Geberit.
    5. Coordinates, filters and approves all Employee Status forms.
    6. Conducts stay and exit interviews.
    7. Tracks data relating to hiring, promotion, termination.
  2. Performance Management (10%)
    1. Assists managers on performance appraisal process for both hourly and salaried workforce.
    2. Assists with employee development and training activities for plant.
    3. Works with corporate HR on succession and retirement planning.
  3. Compensation (10%)
    1. Processes required changes through payroll.
    1. Works with Corporate HR on annual holiday gift for hourly.
    2. Conducts audits to maintain internal equity and audit the overall system.
    3. Schedules new hire pay for performance reviews and increases.
  1. Benefits (15%)
    1. Administers health and welfare plans including enrollments, changes and terminations at the location. 
    1. Assists Corporate HR during open enrollment process.
    2. Files, responds and monitors unemployment claims and assists with appeals.
    3. Responsible for employee recognition programs.
    4. Monitors workers' compensation claims and coordinates communications between employee and insurance carrier.
    5. Responsible for FMLA compliance and record keeping.
  1. Communication and Compliance (30%)
    1. Responsible for the administration of Company policies and procedures at the plant.
    1. Acts as liaison with GM and supervisor to ensure their understanding and compliance with federal, state and Company HR Policies and Procedures.
    2. Provides coaching, counseling and advice to all employees in Michigan City.
    3. Investigates and resolves employee relations issues that come up and gives disciplinary actions when warranted.  Refers complex issues to Corporate HR.
    4. Plans monthly appreciation events and employee feedback sessions for plant employees.
    5. Liaisons with Corporate HR for compliance with the Code of Conduct and other corporate Human Resource initiatives
    6. Assists in completing the OSHA log, safety training and participates on the safety committee at the plant.
    7. Assists in work related injury assessment and arranges for treatment at contracted clinic as needed. 
  1. All other duties as assigned (5%)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Human Resources.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of Microsoft office experience.

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree or MBA.

  • Possesses ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability required in the writing of routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively create and present information; and respond to questions from groups of employees, managers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
  • Ability to check the accuracy of reports, forms, records, and comparable data, where required. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, managers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community. 

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, including decimals and fractions. 
  • Simple use of formulas, charts, tables. 
  • Ability to check for accuracy of reports, forms, records and comparable data, where interpretation is required.

 

REASONING ABILITIES

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

SALARY

Starting Pay $61,000 annually

While performing the responsibilities of the job the employee must remain stationary approximately 80% of the time. They must frequently move about the office to access equipment and communicate with other employees. The employee frequently communicates with employees and vendors.  Must be able to identify and detect potential hazards in the workplace.  Occasionally transports office binders, files, boxes weighing up to 20 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level within the office is minimal.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Will be required to sometimes work on the factory floor where hearing, foot and vision protection may be necessary.  This position requires up to 10% travel; in an automobile or common carrier may be required.
